Direct flights from Colombo connect to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad—90 minutes to 4 hours depending on destination. Budget airlines keep fares competitive. Once in India, trains and buses connect everything; the subcontinent is a traveller's dream of accessibility. Indian visas don't usually allow work (tourist visas are explicit), but tourism, visits to family, and business meetings are standard.

The real shift is psychological: India is affordable enough to be an impulse trip, close enough to reach in a morning flight, and diverse enough to sustain weeks of travel without repetition. Many Sri Lankans treat India as 'the big trip'—temple towns, Himalayan treks, houseboats in Kerala, pilgrimages—because the scale and ambition reward it.
