Singapore in April: The Stopover Guide Every Traveller Should Know
A 6-hour layover or a whole weekend—Singapore punches above its size. Here's your plan.
Singapore is one of the world's busiest transit hubs, which means flights from Sri Lanka often stop there. A 6-hour layover can frustrate or delight depending on planning. A longer stop (12+ hours, or a deliberate layover day) transforms Singapore from a rush into an adventure. April heat is intense, but the city is walkable, affordable, and genuinely rewarding.
Quick stopover strategy
On a short layover, stick to the airport or Changi's immediate vicinity—there's a garden, a pool, and restaurants in the terminals themselves. If you have 8+ hours, take the airport train (MRT) into central Singapore. Marina Bay's skyline, Gardens by the Bay (free to enter, paid for the domes), and Chinatown's street food are a short ride from the airport.
Longer visit (overnight or weekend)
- Book a budget hotel near Kallang or Outram Park (easy MRT access)
- Sentosa Island for beaches and attractions, or skip it and eat
- Food is the best reason to stay—hawker centres offer incredible value
- Public transport is excellent; buy an EZ-Link card at the airport
