New SriLankan Airlines flights connect Colombo to Coimbatore
A fresh route opens up South India's Coimbatore region for easier access from Colombo.
Starting in July 2025, SriLankan Airlines launched four-times-weekly flights between Colombo and Coimbatore, expanding access to India's industrial and cultural hub in the south. Coimbatore has historically been less travel-focused than nearby cities like Bangalore or Kochi, which makes this new service a real opportunity for travellers exploring South India.
Coimbatore is known for its textile industry, role in the Indian independence movement, and proximity to the Nilgiri hills. For travellers interested in a less-crowded gateway to South India, or those heading to smaller towns and hill stations in the Western Ghats region, the city offers genuine practical advantages. The new route makes a regional trip feel that much more manageable.
With four flights per week, you have scheduling flexibility. The route works well if you're combining a Coimbatore visit with onward travel to Kerala or up into the hill stations. Shorter flight times from Colombo mean you can travel during typical working hours and arrive in good time. Keep an eye on pricing as the route matures—new routes sometimes offer attractive introductory fares.
